League Play

1.     The MGA Team Play will consist of two parts, a Round Robin Match and a Playoff Bracket.

1.     Teams will play Round-Robin Matches against all other competing teams as provided by the schedule.

2.     The Teams with the four highest Team Match Points will be seeded by their records into the Playoff Bracket.

                                                  i.    In the event of ties the result of the head-to-head match between the teams will decide the seed.

ii.    If the head-to-head match does not resolve the tie, the Teams will schedule a Four-Ball Match to decide.  (If scheduling or weather prevent such a match the Team Play Captains will meet and resolve the tie, by lot if necessary.)

3.     The Playoff Bracket will consist of two rounds.

                                                  i.    In the first round the top two seeds will host the bottom two seeds at their course.

ii.    In the Final the two remaining Teams will play at a neutral course to decide the MGA Team Play Champion.

2.     Each Match Team shall consist of 12 players from each competing club. In the event less than a full team of players can compete in a given match, the Team Captain will set at least one player in each Four-Ball match. A player may play for only one Club's Team during the course of the season. Captains need to report to starter 30 minutes prior to first tee time with a pairing sheet and pay greens fees for their Team. Note: It has been agreed that the Hansen Dam/Woodley Lakes Team may play with 10 players per team. Opposing teams have agreed to field 10 players for that match.

3.     USGA Match Play Rules shall govern play.  MGA or LA City Local Rules will also be observed.  Individual Clubs Local Rules for their local competitions will not apply unless agreed by both Team Captains.

4.     In the event of inclement weather, Team Captains may declare Lift, Clean and Place rules in effect.  Both Team Captains must agree to do this.  The Local Rule is: on any closely mown area through the green a player may lift and clean their ball.  It must be marked before lifting and replaced where it lay.  (USGA Rules, Appendix I, C, 3.)

5.     Senior players (55+) may play from the White Tees.  All other players should play from the Blue tees. If all players in the Four-Ball match agree they may play the tees they chose.  Individual handicaps will be calculated from tee box used.  However, in any match between players on different tees the handicaps of players not on the Blue Tees will be adjusted per Section 3-5 of the USGA Handicap Manual.

6.     Match-ups should be made in order of the player's current index, #1 ranked player against #1 player, #2 ranked player against #2 player, etc. Captains will have at least one player in each of the Four-Ball matches. The Visiting Captain must submit a line-up to the Home Team Captain by Monday the week of tournament. Pairings need not be in sequential order. The Home Team Captain must match players to the visiting team line-up. If changes need to be made the respective Captains must agree, otherwise the Visiting team line-up will stand. In the event of last minute changes, the player being added will replace the absent player without resetting the entire field.

7.     After player Course Handicaps have been calculated, each match, Individual or Four-Ball, will be played off the player with the lowest Handicap. Example: If a player with a 12 handicap is playing a player with a 15, the 15 handicap receives 1 stroke on the 3 most difficult holes according to the Course Handicap Stroke Allocation.

Individual Match Play

8.     In each foursome there will be two individual match play contests. Call them Match A and Match B, to be determined by the Team Captains. Match A's players will tee off first on the front nine and last on the back nine. A coin flip will determine which player is to tee off first in each match. The Traditional Honors System based on net score will determine the rest.

9.     In each match, the winner of the front nine will receive two points, the winner of the back nine will receive two points and the winner of the eighteen holes will receive two points. When either nine or the eighteen are halved, each player will receive one point.

10.  In the event of a "No-Show," the player present will receive three points for his match. He must then compete for the remaining three points in a stroke play round shooting against net par for each of the three points remaining. EXAMPLE: an unopposed player, in order to win the remaining points, must play a "match" against their net par.  The win or lose each hole against their net par.  They win a point for winning the Front Nine, Back Nine or Total.

Four-Ball (Partner's Best Ball)

11.   In addition, there will be a simultaneous Net Four-Ball Match in each foursome. The Net Best Ball of each Team is the team score.  The lowest Team score wins the hole.  The Points will be the same as the individual match play. In the event of a "No Show," in a foursome, the single player will compete against two in the Partner's Best Ball match.

12.  Points for Individual Match Play and Four-Ball Match Play will be recorded separately. Each Club Team will may win the Individual competition and the Four-Ball or either one. Two points will be awarded to the Club Team for each segment won, individual and Four-Ball.  If a segment is halved, each team will receive one point.

13.  The Total Points of the Individuals matches and the Team Matches will be the Club's Team Score for the match.

Team Captain and Players' Responsibilities

14.  No player may participate in the Elimination Match if they have not played in the Round-Robin Matches for their Club.  Nor may any player who has forfeited a match, play in the Playoff Bracket Match.  (Note: in the event of exceptional circumstances a player may be "forgiven" a forfeit by the opposing Captain.)

15.  Each Captain is responsible for the green fees of his team. The Home Team Captain will provide a line-up sheet to the Starter.

16.  Each Captain shall make up a set of scorecards for each match. Each player shall record his gross score and match play points. Cards shall be signed, attested and submitted to the Team Captain immediately following the finish of the round. Each player is responsible for posting his or her scores. All scores will be posted as non-tournament scores. It is the Team Captains responsibility to include each player's GHIN index number on the score sheets.

17.  Players may give advice only to their partners per USGA Rule 8.

18.  The respective Captains should resolve Claims under the Rules if at all possible.  If the Captains cannot agree, the MGA Committee will make the final decision.

19.  A League fee of $5 dollars per player charged. This money will go to the league expenses and to subsidize the League Banquet and Prize money at the end of the season. All Captains will be responsible for collecting for their team and getting monies to the MGA Committee Chairman at their earliest convenience.

20.  The winning Team Captain shall e-mail or hand-deliver a copy of the day's results immediately after the match to the MGA Committee Chairman.  A "Results and Standings" sheet will be e-mailed to all Team Captains and will be posted on the MGA Web Site, MGALA.org.
